**Reminder, AUDIO FIELD TRIP: This Saturday
Saturday June 21st DC Listening Lounge is having an AUDIO FIELD TRIP.
Please meet at Artisphere in Rosslyn to explore an audio exhibit together there. Nothing too formal but we'll have a chance to chat and trade impressions.
RSVP so we know who is gathering (all are welcome!). We'll be congregating near the cafe on the second floor at 1:30pm
**JUNE DCLL HIGHLIGHTS
If you missed it, here are some highlights from the June DCLL.
To start off the night and pay homage to the recently deceased top 40 pop radio DJ legend Casey Kasem we shared our top lists (and those we like least) including but not limited to: beer on tap at the local bar, best happy hours, worst happy hours, free in DC, pitchfork music, nytimes best lists, 10 shitty saying, sexiest man alive.
Then we listened to stuff: We got up close and personal with struggling U.S. chicken farmers when Jonna shared a work-in- progress about the pervasive trend of foreclosures and their impact on an agricultural town in the American south. The breath of a child-eating monster/dragon-lady with long claw-nails scratched and whispered in our ears as we played an audio guessing game (of sorts) to figure out how Nikki composed her most recent sound effect collection. Micah took us backstage to a 2am post-party gatherings of his friends and shared a recorded collection of answers to the question, “why do we lie?” Try it with your friends! (2am post-drinking may or may not make the responses even more colorful and existential.) Jocelyn played a clip from a Bullseye podcast about rapper Vince Staples in an effort to make sense of her recent over-analytical* midnight kitchen listening session and Charles shared a soundscape from a museum installation where he transformed a gallery room into an underwater, and above, exploration of a child's imagination.
Hope you can join us in July with your audio treats.
*jocelyn composed this email so she's just being self-critical and would never tease DCLL members for their audio impressions/reflections.
