Thanks for everyone who came out last night for the DCLL meeting- a sonically fruitful evening (and art made on-location is included with this note courtesy of Matt Malone!). If you missed it way below is a summary of some of the audio treats.

----------DCLL review/highlights-------
The night kicked off with introductions and discussions of totem insects and very very cold times (possibly inspired by the cold living room of j.frank- an insect free space.)
david felt himself represented by the bees he's started keeping, james gave warning of the devious ways of bed bugs, tali shared advice about the dangers of mixing hot bods and cold air, matt disclosed he's been stalked by the silent predator fruit flies, jesse has a warm affinity for the cringe-inducing cave cricket and spoke (for shea in absentia) of mosquitoes, ben revelled in the true cold of numb fingertips brought on from shaking a boston shaker w ice and gin and dry vermouth until feeling is lost, bobak may have had a few too many of ben's drinks when he stumbled face first into a syracuse snow pile, schultz recalled the last cold bike ride he ever took- on inauguration day 2009, ginger remembered parking buses in that same cold air, jocelyn complimented the praying mantis for its elegance while attempting to dodge personal similarities in other capacities, teague admitted to long hours staring at sticks wishing they might move because of his love of the walking stick bugs of new england. Jeff extolled the air propulsion systems of water gliders and alex the bumble bee, laura had an early but vibrant affection for an ant that has stayed with her through the years. George celebrated the chinese stink bug and lindsay sought deeper answers about the enduring spirit of daddy longlegs and their ability to live even with a few short legs where the long ones once stretched. Denee disclosed that she has a rich collection of scorpions and other creatures preserved in resin - a collection she got going as a kid in texas.

Ben brought the streets just outside Treme into the living room with the callings-out of mixers a discussion of the second line funeral calls of the area.
Jocelyn took us underground to the cryptic sounds of the Dupont Underground recorded during Seth's sept. performance
Tali shared a full 360 view of Street Roots a paper of Oregon (similar to street sense in dc) and its impact on merchants and the wider community
Jeff shared a veteran's day song called Broken Soldier that came forward from the heart unexpectedly and with his guitar octave dropped to become a bass accompaniment
George took his 12 yr old sister out to hear live music and came back with two different recordings to play for us with different noise floors and a discussion of resonant frequencies of the performance space
Denee shared multi-media productions of song, journey, and darkness created in the Dupont Underground
Jesse shared (only) a 2 minute clip of a 17 min documentary of moonshine (more can be heard here).
