Hey all- thanks for a great DCLL meeting at Jason's.
For those who missed it, below are some highlights.
For those who attended it, relive the magic (minus Fen).

--Looking forward to September's lounge- pencil in September 18th (?)

--Also- DCLL member David Schulman (you may have experienced his violin extraordinaire) will be throwing a pre-release music (and dance) party for his upcoming album. Its an album that YOU, DCLL members, have contributed feedback about over the last bunch of months of DCLL meetings. Set aside September 6th. Details to follow.
HIGHLIGHTS:
intros:   When reflecting on the best sounds of summer DC Listening Lounge members noted that the crescendo and decrescendo of peepers was particularly memorable, also: AC churning (and dripping) along dc streets, crickets, hot trash (it doesn't have a sound particularly but we humored Dave who really wanted to talk about his love for that iconic summer smell), country music and beer cans snapping open around a sparking fire, Will Smith's "summer time," the sound of crickets sleeping (aka almost summer silence, when the breeze becomes audible again), wind in your ears while you ride a bike and the change as you turn your head side to side, mourning doves at noon, waves crashing, laughing gulls and the ice cream truck, slicing zucchini, jamming with friends on the porch in to the cooler hours of the morning, ice cubes in a cocktail class, cicadas, basketballs on pavement.

audio: Alex V.O. took us back in time to the sports reporting of All Things Considered - no not the Olympics but his play by play reporting of... yogic flying.
Teague adventured to Chile and brought back the "Teague style" recording of a bar in full song
David Schulman was encouraged to play the audio cut that most resembled KCRW @ 3am plus accordion. A track off his upcoming album with some whispering references to the cranes we've heard at meetings past.
Jocelyn brought out a recording from the New Orleans Jazz Fest 2011, tuba choir performs "Walk like an Egyptian"
Jonna and Emily introduced us to the "First Ladies" of Barre Farms basketball games. A non-narrated vibrant visit to the game.
Jason gave a rousing guided audio tour of the ways that we should love and listen for the skills of Frank Sinatra (a throw back to some DCLL members' musicology courses of the past).
AND we CELEBRATED the awesome AWARD-WINNING work of DCLL member Adam Kampe- who scored big at the Third Coast International Audio Festival's competition with his piece "Crown the King, Red Takes Black."
We want to listen again when Adam is in attendance but we couldn't wait to cheer!

Looking forward to listening together again soon,
DCLL
