April lounge and march highlights

Come on out to the April Listening Lounge
Tuesday April 19th
7:30pm-10:30pm
Fairmont Street NW,
Questions: call Zach  (email dcll for details)

The address is 1331 Fairmont Street NW, apt A. When you walk up to the building, there are two staircases, one leading up, one leading down. Apartment A (Zach's place) is down below, at ground level. The nearest metro stop is Columbia Heights, and the nearest bus line is anything running up 14th street. Parking on the block is dicey, sometimes there are spots, sometimes not.

-- March Highlights--

Thanks to Ginger and Teague for hosting a great listening lounge in March. The night got started with listing some favorite spring activities including but not limited to: walking the waterfront promenade, magnolias blooming, cherry blossoms, birds being spotted- goldfinch, juncos, woodcocks. Visiting the National Mall, the Kite Festival, music heard through open windows, weekday-off-tourist-time-visits to touristy places...

The audio portion of the night included a Basque Festival mashup from Elissa and a vibrant conversation about handball, hi-li and some corrections about mis-information about Basque culture.
Bond shifted gears to the open seas of the Down Easter Alexa and if you didn't know- you can hear Mr. Joel round the clock here. A song-exploder-style-inside-the-actors-studio-from-the-musician-himself explanation of the song inspired enthusiastic listening. There was a good deal of nostalgia pouring out from a particular email scribe (that shall not be named) and some recollected stories of attendance at live concerts and impressive* childhood dance recitals. Colleen brought us out to DC's U-street on a weekend night (aurally) to meet a man known by sight as the Black Swan guy. She shared a surprisingly intimate portrait of the man, in his own words, who began dressing up in costume and saw his life change. Kyle offered up a behind the scenes audio peek into a rehearsal recording of the Oly Mountain Boys -early days- as they intellectually dissed one another and Neil Young. Jocelyn shared her sound-design for an audio poem she submitted with writer Josh Lefkowitz to the recent Missouri Audio Contest.  Stella transported us out to the wilderness of Puffins' habitats and wowed us with puffin trivia. We all learned around this time last month that puffin songs have a mysterious resemblance to the sounds of men pretending to be cows.

If that ain't enough- come join in the listening delights on April 19th. Looking forward to it.

Hello DCLL,
Do you have an audio piece (story, song, atmospheric bed, found sound, collage, delight, mystery) that is under 3 minutes long and maybe, just maybe, fits the theme "Sculpting Sound" ?

If so, consider sending a .wav to this email address for possible inclusion in this year's SOUND SCENE interactive audio installation at the Hirshhorn.

Looking forward to listening with you,
DCLL

PS If your audio doesn't fit the theme but is super awesome, send it anyway (and say that).
